A Living Legacy
The Marlyn Fein Chapter of the Board of Associates
Of Fox Chase Cancer Center, Temple Health

We consider ourselves Marlyn Fein’s family, although most of us had never met Marlyn.

The Marlyn Fein Chapter, a volunteer fundraising group of men and women, continues to thrive and grow – and raise money for the Fox Chase Cancer Center – 42 years after Marlyn’s death, at age 25, from bone cancer osteogenic sarcoma.

Frank Fein, Marlyn’s widower, never imagined that the group would grow into the organization it has become today. “We started raising money for Fox Chase with Marlyn’s family, friends, and classmates,” he says. “We wanted to honor her memory and help Fox Chase provide for others, the kind of care she received.”

With approximately 130 members today, the group is more active than ever. What motivates the volunteers? “Every member has their own personal reason for joining the Chapter, but it’s the connections among us that keep us going,” says Penny Fisher, President of the Chapter. “Many of us live in the surrounding neighborhoods and know firsthand what a wonderful place Fox Chase is. This is our way to give back – and we have so much fun doing it.”

Throughout most of its history, the Chapter has supported general research and patient care. About 10 years ago we started to direct our support to specific areas. We have been working, of late to help fund research with Dr. Richard Bleicher and the Women’s Cancer Center. Also purchasing equipment where needed in any and all departments to fulfill our patient care commitment.

Through an annual program of more than 20 fundraising events a year, which include holiday gift wrapping, fashion shows, bingo, trips to Broadway and many more, our group has raised over $2,150,000 for Fox Chase Cancer Center, in our mission to fund compassionate patient care and research in the hopes of eradicating cancer in our lifetime.
